The Thousand Oaks High School Theater Department is a dedicated group of students and staff who all have a passion for the theatrical performing arts.
The Teacher/Director/ Visual and Performing Arts Department Chair Joseph Donia, has worked in both Educational Theater and Professional Theater for over 45 years. The department offers two main stage productions every year. A comedy in the fall and a spring musical. Mr. Donia directs, designs and builds the department's productions from the ground up every year with a fantastic outcome. The Department offers an introduction to theatre, Theatre I, as well as advanced acting classes, Theatre II, Theatre Practicum III and IV. For those students who are interested in the technical aspects of theatre, the Technical Theatre Class is offered. The "Tech Class" builds the sets and props for the two major productions done in the fall and spring. The program has a superb technical student crew who work hard to make sure the show sounds and looks excellent. In addition to one-on-one training, Mr. Donia offers his students a wide array of tools and opportunities to further expand their knowledge and love for the performing arts. There is no prerequisite to enroll in the entry-level classes, and Mr. Donia welcomes any and all students with a heart for the stage.
Mr. Donia has been teaching at Thousand Oaks High School for 37 years, and hopes to stay long enough to see his own son graduate in 2019.
